Spiced Hot Chocolate

Making hot chocolate from scratch feels is as magical as Christmas, trust me. As a general rule of thumb, I use a 1:1 ratio for cocoa to sugar, but if you're like me and don't like your holiday drinks too sweet, then you can reduce the sugar. Another little tip I found is, if you dissolve your cocoa and sugar in a bit of cold milk before adding it to your hot milk, the resulting hot chocolate is a lot smoother and nicer. Enjoy this hot chocolate curled up under a blanket and taking in the last of the winter months for us.




2 tbsp Cocoa Powder
2 tbsp Brown Sugar
2 cups of your Preferred Milk
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
2 Cinnamon Sticks
2 Star Anise
1/8 tsp Ground Nutmeg
1 pinch of Salt


Add cocoa powder, sugar and salt to a saucepan and whisk to combine.

Add 2 tbsp cold milk to dissolve cocoa powder.

Add the remaining milk with vanilla extract, cinnamon, star anise and nutmeg and whisk on a medium flame to combine all ingredients.

Let it simmer for a few minutes and take off heat.

Serve garnished with whipped cream, marshmallows or a sprinkle of brown sugar and cinnamon powder!
